Roommates & Shared Accommodation Policy
At Atomic Trips, many travelers join trips solo and participate in shared accommodations as part of the social group travel experience. Shared accommodations help create a more community-focused environment while helping keep trips more affordable and accessible for travelers.
By selecting a shared accommodation option, travelers acknowledge and agree to the policies below.
Shared Accommodations
Travelers who select a shared room option may be paired with another traveler during the trip. Shared accommodations may include hotels, apartments, resorts, villas, hostels, or other group lodging arrangements depending on the destination and itinerary.
Travelers understand that shared accommodations involve sharing sleeping areas, bathrooms, common spaces, and lodging facilities with another traveler.
Roommate Assignments
Travelers may request a specific roommate when booking. While Atomic Trips may attempt to honor roommate requests when operationally possible, roommate assignments and roommate requests are never guaranteed.
If a traveler does not request a roommate, or if a requested roommate becomes unavailable, Atomic Trips may assign roommates at its discretion based on operational needs, availability, trip logistics, traveler demographics, or accommodation limitations.
Atomic Trips does not guarantee:
- Roommate compatibility
- Personality compatibility
- Lifestyle compatibility
- Sleeping habits
- Noise preferences
- Cleanliness standards
- Social compatibility
- Specific traveler pairings
Travelers acknowledge that flexibility and mutual respect are required when participating in shared accommodations.
Room Configurations & International Accommodations
Room layouts and bed configurations vary by destination, hotel, property, and country. Shared accommodations may include:
- Twin beds
- Double beds
- Queen beds
- Bunk beds
- Pull-out beds
- European-style bedding arrangements
- Other room layouts based on local accommodations
Specific room types, bedding arrangements, room sizes, views, square footage, or accommodation preferences cannot be guaranteed.
Travelers acknowledge that international accommodations may differ significantly from standard U.S. hotel expectations and may vary between destinations and suppliers.
Solo Travelers
Solo travelers are welcome on all Atomic Trips experiences. Many travelers attend trips independently and participate in shared accommodations as part of the community travel experience.
Travelers booking solo who select shared accommodations understand they may be paired with another traveler.
Private Room Requests
Some trips may offer private or single-occupancy room upgrades for an additional fee. Private room availability is limited, subject to availability, and not guaranteed until confirmed by Atomic Trips.
Additional costs may apply for private accommodations, upgrades, room changes, or special accommodation requests.
Traveler Conduct Within Shared Accommodations
All travelers are expected to behave respectfully toward roommates, other travelers, hotel staff, property operators, and local suppliers.
Travelers agree to:
- Maintain respectful and appropriate behavior
- Follow accommodation and property rules
- Respect shared spaces and reasonable cleanliness standards
- Avoid harassment, discrimination, intimidation, or disruptive conduct
- Refrain from bringing unauthorized guests into accommodations unless explicitly permitted
- Cooperate with reasonable operational decisions made by Atomic Trips staff or trip leaders
Failure to comply with these expectations may result in roommate reassignment, removal from accommodations, additional accommodation charges, or removal from the trip without refund in accordance with the Atomic Trips Terms of Service.
Illness, Medical Situations & Room Reassignment
This section applies specifically to travelers who selected shared accommodations or roommate-based lodging arrangements.
If a traveler becomes ill during the trip and their roommate no longer feels comfortable sharing accommodations due to concerns regarding illness, health exposure, or personal safety, Atomic Trips may require temporary or permanent roommate reassignment or separate accommodations when operationally possible.
In these situations:
- The traveler experiencing illness may become financially responsible for the cost of additional accommodations required for roommate reassignment or separation
- Additional room costs will be billed only at the direct nightly hotel or accommodation rate without additional Atomic Trips service fees
- Room availability is not guaranteed and depends on hotel capacity and operational limitations
- Travelers may be required to seek evaluation from a local medical provider and provide documentation or a doctor’s note if requested by the Atomic Trips team
Travelers may submit eligible accommodation-related expenses to their travel insurance provider for possible reimbursement subject to their policy terms.
Atomic Trips strongly recommends comprehensive travel insurance that includes accommodation change coverage, medical coverage, and trip interruption protections.
Roommate Changes During Travel
Requests for roommate changes after the trip begins are not guaranteed. Atomic Trips may attempt to assist when feasible, but accommodations, hotel capacity, operational limitations, or supplier restrictions may prevent changes from being possible.
Additional costs associated with room changes, upgrades, or separate accommodations may become the responsibility of the traveler requesting or requiring the change.
Accommodation Flexibility
Hotels, accommodations, and lodging providers may change before or during a trip due to operational, supplier, safety, weather, medical, or logistical reasons.
Travelers understand that flexibility is required during international and group travel experiences and that accommodations may differ from promotional materials, photos, or initial expectations.
Shared Accommodation Safety & Personal Responsibility
Atomic Trips works to create a respectful, community-oriented group travel environment and may collect traveler information, facilitate group communication, and monitor trip operations to help support positive traveler experiences.
However, shared accommodations and group travel inherently involve interaction with other travelers, third-party suppliers, local operators, public environments, and individuals whose behavior, actions, or personal conduct cannot be fully predicted or controlled.
While Atomic Trips strives to promote traveler safety and respectful conduct, Atomic Trips does not guarantee:
- Compatibility between travelers
- Personal behavior of other travelers
- Interpersonal outcomes within shared accommodations
- The prevention of disputes, discomfort, misconduct, or interpersonal conflicts
- The absolute safety or security of any traveler, accommodation, or shared environment
Travelers remain responsible for exercising reasonable personal judgment, maintaining awareness of their surroundings, securing personal belongings, and promptly reporting safety concerns, inappropriate behavior, threats, harassment, or misconduct to the Atomic Trips team or local authorities when appropriate.
Atomic Trips reserves the right to make operational decisions related to roommate assignments, accommodation changes, traveler separation, removal from shared accommodations, or removal from trips when deemed necessary for safety, operational, behavioral, or logistical reasons.
By participating in shared accommodations, travelers acknowledge and accept the inherent interpersonal and operational risks associated with group travel and shared lodging environments.
Relationship to Terms of Service
This Roommates & Shared Accommodation Policy is intended to supplement the Atomic Trips Terms of Service and related traveler policies.
In the event of any conflict, inconsistency, operational necessity, or interpretation issue between this policy and the Atomic Trips Terms of Service, the Atomic Trips Terms of Service shall control and prevail to the fullest extent permitted.
Atomic Trips reserves the right to make operational decisions related to accommodations, roommate assignments, room changes, traveler conduct, safety concerns, supplier limitations, and trip logistics based on the overall operational needs of the trip.
Traveler Acknowledgment
By selecting a shared accommodation option with Atomic Trips, travelers acknowledge and agree that:
- Shared accommodations involve flexibility and interpersonal variability
- Roommate compatibility cannot be guaranteed
- Room assignments and accommodations may change operationally
- Illness-related room changes may create additional traveler expenses
- International accommodations may differ from standard U.S. expectations
- Atomic Trips may make operational accommodation decisions for safety, logistical, or traveler-management reasons
- The Atomic Trips Terms of Service remain the primary governing agreement for all bookings and traveler relationships
By proceeding with booking, travelers acknowledge and agree to this Roommates & Shared Accommodation Policy in addition to the Atomic Trips Terms of Service.
